About
After earning my degree in Forensic and Analytical Science from Robert Gordon University, I worked as a DNA Analyst for Eurofins Forensic Services (formerly LGC), a leading forensic service provider in England. My role encompassed volume crime examination, pre-PCR and post-PCR sample processing, DNA result interpretation, and National DNA Database sample loading. My responsibilities evolved to include management of a high-throughput laboratory, ensuring timely and often critical sample delivery while maintaining rigorous UKAS and internal quality standards. For several years, I coordinated the cold case laboratory team, specialising in the analysis of decades-old samples and achieving remarkable success rates. Throughout my time at EFS, I contributed to major crime investigations, high-profile cases, and various R&D projects that advanced the DNA unit's capabilities.
I began my academic career as a lecturer in Forensic Science at the University of West London. I led modules in Molecular Biology and Case Assessment and Interpretation, while also teaching across various subjects including the Criminal Justice System, Human Body Form and Function, Building Blocks of Life, Analytical Methods and Forensic Investigation of Crime. Additionally, I supervised student projects, contributing to their practical research experience.
My primary areas of interest include DNA profiling, cold case investigations and body fluids identification.
As a course leader, I am committed to enhancing employability and graduate outcomes by integrating innovative teaching methods into our curriculum. I continue to develop active learning strategies and gamification techniques to engage students and equip them with practical skills relevant to the evolving forensic science industry. My goal is to ensure that our graduates are well-prepared for the future of forensic science, where technological advancements play a critical role in solving complex cases and delivering justice.
